About our League
The primary purpose is for children to learn the fundamentals of soccer and to participate in a team sport, in a recreational league setting. It is to provide each child with a learning and growing experience in the development of soccer skills and sportsmanship.
This purpose is best served through experiences of participation. Concern and emphasis on winning is secondary to the enjoyment of the game. Pressuring players to win solely for the sake of winning is not tolerated.
Every child plays! The participation of every child is equally important and no child shall have his or her opportunity to participate fully in practices and games limited in any way. Children are encouraged to participate regardless their level or skill. Each child will play approximately half the game.
The playing age is calculated on the child's age as of July 31 of the current year. Using 2007 as an example, if your child was born in 2002 and their birthday falls on or before July 31, their playing age is 5. If their birthday falls after July 31, their playing age is 4.
The program is divided into divisions by years based on the playing age as determined above.
Four (4) and five (5) year olds are not permitted on regular teams [except for (5) five-year olds who will become six (6) in August or September and who will be entering first grade].
A player may play in the next older Age-Division, if and only if: (1) A Parent requests, in writing, prior to the player's team assignment that his/her child play in the next older Age-Division, AND (2) such a player assignment is made with the written approval of the District Representative.
*Girls are permitted to play on both all
girl teams and coed teams for no additional fee. However, if both their coed
and girls teams are entered in the NEPSAY tournament, they will only be
eligible to play for one team. If there is a game conflict between the two
teams, we ask that the girl's team gets priority.
Complete rules and regulations regarding ages and team placement can be found in the Soccer Association for Youth (SAY) Rulebook which can be found at http://saysoccer.us/modules/icontent/index.php?page=67
